Our Barclays Women's Super League clash with Spurs might have come too soon for Alanna Kennedy to make her return from injury, but the City defender is hoping her knowledge of Saturday's opponents will have an impact.

The Australian international spent the 2020/21 season with the North London outfit before making the move to City.

After picking up our first win of the Barclays Women’s Super League season with a 4-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday at the City Football Academy, Gareth Taylor’s side will be wanting to follow that up with another positive result at the weekend.

Although Kennedy might not be able to impact proceedings on the field, she admits that she has been giving her teammates the inside track on her former employers.

“It is a bit different this time around being on the sidelines with an injury, from a playing perspective and knowing what to expect from them,” she said.

“I can give the girls here some knowledge on what to do with certain individuals, you learn players when you play with them, so that is always a good thing.

“They have a few attacking threats as well with some young, fast players in there, they are definitely a good team Spurs.

“Structurally, against a team like ours they will probably sit in and try and stop our threats up top, they have a few experienced players back there and I think they have more experience in their midfield as well, Drew Spence for example.”

Three points could see City leapfrog Spurs in the WSL standings and after getting our first three points of the season in our last game, Kennedy is hoping that the side can build on that victory with another win on Saturday.

“I think it was a great performance from the girls [the win over Leicester City], one we needed, we went into the game with high hopes of coming away with three points and the girls executed the game plan really well,” added Kennedy.

“It is important that we keep building that momentum and keep playing with confidence, scoring goals and keeping clean sheets, the girls have been training well, the focus is on taking each game as it comes but winning is our priority at the moment.”
