As for Haaland, now in his fifth season at City, the Norwegian striker has taken on an increasingly important and influential role as one of the more senior members of what has become a revamped, exciting looking Etihad squad.

Asked if new signing Enzo Fernández would form part of the leadership group, the City boss instead revealed: “No, the captains are Rúben, Erling, Marc Guéhi and Donnarumma.”
Fernández together with fellow new signings Illiman Ndiaye and Allan, who all arrived earlier this week ahead of the closure of the summer transfer window, are all available for selection tomorrow.
Their arrival has further added to the sense of a new beginning and fresh era at the club.
And for his part, Maresca expressed his gratitude for the support and backing afforded him by the City hierarchy over what proved a hugely busy transfer window.

“I’m very happy for the effort from the ownership, from Khaldoon (Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak), Hugo (Director of Football Hugo Viana),” the boss added.
“Very happy that in the last days Iliman and Enzo both arrived.
“Now the squad is complete. It’s finished.
“And now it’s time to work.”
