Pep Guardiola says Erling Haaland will be assessed this afternoon ahead of City's UEFA Champions League clash with Young Boys.

The Norwegian was substituted at half-time in our most recent fixture on Saturday, where City ran out 6-1 winners against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Asked whether Haaland would be fit enough to feature in Tuesday’s clash at the Etihad Stadium, the boss revealed that he’d held positive conversations with the forward over the weekend.

However, he insisted that a decision wouldn’t be made until after our final training session at the City Football Academy this afternoon.

“I can’t [give an update],” Guardiola told the media in his pre-match press conference.

“We train this afternoon, so I don’t know.

“I speak with the doctor and him. He told me he felt better, but I don’t know.”

City are back in Premier League action on Sunday when we face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, meaning we have five days to recover and refocus following our clash with Young Boys.

With that in mind, the boss reiterated that he isn’t ruling out a midweek appearance from Haaland should he be given a positive update from the Club’s medical team.

However, should the Norwegian miss out against the Swiss champions, Guardiola says Argentine international Julian Alvarez will lead the line.

He added: “Tomorrow I will listen to doctor. If he says he doesn’t have pain, I will consider letting him play.

“There are lots of days to recover.

“Right now, if Erling doesn’t play, Julian is going to play there.
