Phil Foden has expressed his delight after City became FIFA Club World Cup champions for the first time with a 4-0 victory over Fluminense.

Julian Alvarez opened the scoring after just 43 seconds, chesting into the net after Nathan Ake‘s shot struck the inside of the post.

Foden‘s cross was then deflected into his own net by Nino, before the Englishman poked in a third in the second half, latching onto an accurate Alvarez cross.

Alvarez added a late fourth, finding the bottom corner with a powerful strike to secure our fifth trophy of 2023 and first ever FIFA Club World Cup triumph.

“It was an unbelievable match,” said Foden. “We showed not only quality, but heart and determination.

“We’re not used to the heat so it was difficult. I’m delighted with the outcome.

“I’m over the moon. This is so important for us. It’s the first time we’ve won it. I’m delighted. It is massive for the club.”

The Academy graduate also reserved some praise for Fluminense, who stuck to their principles in a testing encounter in Jeddah.

“Fair play to them, the way they play, I love the way they play with short passes,” he said.

“They’re a great side. they didn’t make it easy today for us.”
