PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

On Burnley: “The last two or three days I am thinking what they have done so far this season.

“What I saw I am not surprised by their position and what they have done in the Championship, they are so close to being a Premier League team next year.

“Seeing more carefully what they do I understand completely why they are there. They will be a really tough opponent because they do incredible things on the pitch.”

Bernardo Silva is unavailable for selection as he serves a one game suspension.

Team news

City boss Pep Guardiola make seven changes for our FA Cup quarter-final home clash against Burnley.

Stefan Ortega Moreno, Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte, Rico Lewis, Riyad Mahrez, Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden all come into the starting eleven from that side that beat RB Leipzig 7-0 in the Champions League in midweek.

Making way are Ederson, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish who all revert to the bench.

Bernardo Silva also makes way as he serves a one match suspension this afternoon.

Teams

CITY XI: Ortega Moreno, Walker, Dias, Laporte, Lewis, Rodrigo, De Bruyne (C), Mahrez, Alvarez, Foden, Haaland

Subs: Ederson, Phillips, Stones, Aké, Gündogan, Grealish, Gómez, Akanji, Palmer

BURNLEY: Peacock-Farrell, Roberts, Al-Dakhil, Beyer, Maatsen, Cullen, Gudmundsson, Tella, Zaroury, Vitinho, Foster

Subs: Muric, Taylor, Cork, Barnes, Twine, Bastien, Obafemi, Dervisoglu, Benson

PREVIOUS MEETING

We last faced the Clarets in this competition in January 2019, securing a 5-0 fourth round win.

City opened the scoring through Gabriel Jesus in the first half and preserved our slender lead until the interval.

We then and turned on the style in the second half, as strikes from Kevin De Buryne, Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero and a Kevin Long own goal secured a strong success.

Our last meeting in any competition was in April 2022, with City picking up three Premier League points with a 2-0 win at Turf Moor courtesy of goals from Ilkay Gundogan and De Bruyne.

LAST TIME OUT

An electric Phil Foden scored a brace and De Bruyne netted a screamer as we defeated Bristol City 0-3 to advance into the FA Cup quarter-final.

The Clarets struck a stoppage time winner against Fleetwood Town to make it to this stage of the competition.

FORM GUIDE

Kompany’s men are in superb form and are unbeaten in their last 17 matches in all competitions, with their last loss coming in the Carabao Cup on 21 December.

We’re unbeaten in our last nine matches across all competitions and come into the game after a 7-0 (8-1 agg) UEFA Champions League victory over RB Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium
