Lauren Hemp’s strike against West Ham United in our opening day victory has been shortlisted for October’s Barclays Women’s Super League Goal of the Month award.

The winger scored our first goal of the 2023/24 campaign in the 48th minute, curling a left-footed effort into the top left corner from just outside the box.

It was a thoroughly deserved goal after an intense opening 45 minutes in which City were unfortunate not to gain the lead earlier.

Hemp’s goal was quickly followed suit by Jill Roord, who scored her first goal for the Club – on her debut – seven minutes later.

The England international’s goal against the London side was her 55th since joining City in 2018, making her our third highest goal scorer in the history of the Club.

Hemp’s goal faces tough competition with seven other goals shortlisted.

Tottenham Hotspurs’ Grace Clinton, Martha Thomas and Eveliina Summanen, Liverpool’s Marie Hobinger, Arsenal’s Cloe Lacasse and Katie McCabe as well as Leicester City’s Aimee Palmer all have goals nominated.

You can vote for Hemp’s goal here. Voting closes at 10:00 (UK) on Monday 30 October.
