The enthralling 2023/24 Barclays Women’s Super League title race will reach its climax this weekend.

After 21 matches played in the division so far, Manchester City and Chelsea are level on 52 points heading into the final weekend with only goal difference keeping Gareth Taylor’s side from the summit.

Our last assignment of the term is a trip to Aston Villa while Emma Hayes’ side visit Manchester United and both matches will kick-off at 15:00 (UK).

Here’s how the weekend is shaping up and what City need to do to lift our second-ever WSL title before the shutters fall on the season.

GOAL DIFFERENCE

Chelsea currently hold a goal difference of +47 and City possess +45.

Therefore, if both teams win on Saturday, we will need to force a three-goal swing at Villa Park to be crowned champions.

For example, if the Londoners beat Marc Skinner’s side 1-0, we will need to secure a 4-0 success over Carla Ward’s team.

However, if both teams’ goal difference is equal by the final whistle, then the title will be decided by goals scored. At present, Hayes’ team have bagged 65 and we have netted 59.

WIN OR DRAW

If Taylor’s team better Chelsea’s result, we will be crowned WSL champions.

A victory over the Villans will be enough if the Londoners lose or draw at Old Trafford.

However, if Hayes’ team lose to Skinner’s side, a City and Villa draw will secure our second-ever title.

LOSE LOSE

If both teams lose on Saturday, once again, goal difference will come into play.

City would have to be defeated by three less goals than Chelsea to win the title on goal difference if the sides remain on 52 points.
