Gareth Taylor says the vibes are ‘really positive’ as his in-form City Women side continue to fight for honours on three fronts.

City defeated Leicester 2-0 in the WSL on Sunday, late goals from Lauren Hemp and Chloe Kelly ensuring a valuable three point haul as we put huge pressure on Chelsea at the top of the table.

We’re following that up with a Continental Cup quarter-final away at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday before an FA Cup fifth round tie away at Arsenal on Sunday.

Then it’s a summit battle away at Chelsea the following Friday in what promises to be a superb spectacle.

City have won eight on the bounce in all competitions, heading into another exciting week and Taylor says the team are on a high.

“The vibes have been really positive, everyone’s contributing,” said Taylor in his pre-match press conference.

“This is what we are after, this is why we’re in the game, we want to be in those big moments, these big opportunities.

“We were top of the table for a few hours yesterday and we’re there and we are knocking right on the door. It’s great.

“To go on this run has been really impressive and we’re excited about what the next week or next ten days brings but also beyond the international break as well because what we have done, regardless of what happens in these games, is position ourselves well.

“But we know in the cup competitions, you get one chance. It’s not like the league which can almost feel a bit like a cup competition because you have to be pretty flawless but the cup competitions you need to be there, ready and impose ourselves early.

“The vibes have been really good and really positive.”

It’s a very busy period for the players and staff with games coming thick and fast.

But Taylor is enjoying the frantic schedule, stressing it’s ensuring good ‘rhythm and tempo’ for his team as they battle for honours in 2023/24.

“We had a session today with certain members of the group and the others did some good recovery,” added the boss.

“It’s just about recovery now before the next games. We had this recently, I think it was Liverpool, United, Spurs - a three game week - we’ve experienced that and as a coach you enjoy those games because they’re coming thick and fast.

“Regardless of performance or result - it’s obviously great when you play well and win the games which we have done - but I just think it’s great going into those type of periods because it’s recovery, get ready for the next game, putting the last one to bed and then moving on.

“It creates a lot of rhythm and tempo for the team to build on. It’s another week like that.

“So obviously we travel tomorrow. We’ve reviewed the game today from yesterday, which had a lot of positives and then, of course, we don’t look beyond Wednesday night.

“There are another two games after that in different competitions before the international break but we’re really focused on this one on Wednesday.”
