Gareth Taylor says Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is in contention for Sunday’s big Barclays Women’s Super League clash with Chelsea.

Shaw enjoyed a sensational 2022/23 campaign, scoring 31 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.

She was also included in the PFA Team of the Year and secured a spot on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

Shaw was absent for the opening game at West Ham due to an injury she picked up while on international duty.

The striker sat out of the second leg of Jamaica’s Olympic qualifier with Canada ahead of the Hammers opener and while boss Taylor said the injury ‘wasn’t dramatic’ it was enough to ensure her absence in the 2-0 victory at Chigwell Construction Stadium.

The news this week, however, is good as Taylor revealed she’s trained and will be in his thinking ahead of the game with Emma Hayes’s team at the newly-renamed Joie Stadium this weekend.

“Bunny is in good shape, better than last weekend,” said Taylor in his pre-match press conference.

“So she’s been with us this week over the last few days training and is in contention for the weekend. So that’s good news.”

Taylor also said that Demi Stokes, who signed a one-year extension to her contract in June, is getting closer to a return but won’t be available for Sunday.
