Get to know our newest defender a little more following her move from Germany.

Carlotta Wamser has joined Andrée Jeglertz’s defensive ranks ahead of the 2026/27 season, making her the latest summer signing after penning a four-year contract.

Want to find out more about Wamser? Here are 10 things you may or may not have known about her...

PRE-MATCH RITUAL

For many professional footballers, superstitions are an important part of a player’s pre-match ritual.

And that rings true for City’s newest signing… Wamser always makes sure she puts her socks on backwards ahead of every match!

EUROPEAN GLORY

Wamser has represented Germany at U15, U16, U17, U19 and U20 youth levels.

Throughout that time, she has featured in defence, perfecting her craft alongside some of Germany’s most exciting talent, including herself.

Be at City v Birmingham this weekend!

Her hard work through the youth ranks also saw her represent her nation at the Under-17 Euros in 2019.

Wamser’s versatility was on show in the final as she operated on the left-wing during Germany’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, before a penalty shootout win saw them lift the trophy.

IN ANOTHER LIFE

Wamser’s game has developed over the years through her versatility and willingness to operate in various positions.

That has seen her previously play as a striker for her former German clubs and a winger in the Germany youth teams as previously mentioned.

Given her strength and ability to read play, it would come as no surprise that she could also operate at centre-back if Jeglertz set the task upon her.

DEBUT

After signing for SGS Essen in the summer of 2020, Wamser was handed her Bundesliga debut on 4 September 2020, aged 16.

Despite their 3-0 loss to Vfl Wolfsburg, Wamser stamped her name on the team-sheet as she went on to play in all of Essen’s games for the remainder of the campaign.

PLAYER OF THE SEASON

For a debut campaign in professional football, it doesn’t get much better than Wamser’s.

By the end of the 2020/21 season, the then-17-year-old was Essen’s top scorer.

Her desire to help the team made her a fan favourite in Germany and saw her named Player of the Season by SGS fans.

NOTHING BUT NET

After two years at Eintracht Frankfurt, Wamser joined FC Koln on a season-long loan to help further her development.

Once again operating in a forward position, Wamser scored the decisive strike in Koln’s 2-1 win over Werder Bremen, firing into the back of the opposition’s net on 81 minutes.

EUROS

Wamser’s first major tournament experience might’ve come as a bit of a surprise for the young defender… she was a first-half substitute in their first group game!

She replaced an injured Giulia Gwinn on 39 minutes, but stepped up to the challenge  with an assist to help open the scoring in an eventual 2-0 win over Poland.

She went on to play an integral role in her nation’s Euros campaign before their exit in the semi-finals.

FUTSAL

In the early years of Wamser’s career, the aspiring footballer represented many Academy teams, featuring predominantly in male youth leagues.

When playing for youth side SpVg Brakel, they often played futsal as a way to further the technical ability of the players. Wamser and her team won the Westphalian Futsal Championship in 2019.

So, it comes as no surprise that Wamser is a skilful player with the desire to go one-v-one with any opponent.

ORIGINS

Wamser is from a German town called Bielefeld, home to 2. Bundesliga side DSC Arminia Bielefeld.

It is located in the north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia and has a population of approximately 343,000.

For context, Greater Manchester is roughly eight times bigger!

FAMILY AT HEART

Wamser’s family have been a constant support to her as she’s chased her dream of becoming a professional player.

And on the latest step in her career, her parents made the trip to England with her to be by her side as she signed for City.Â
