Andrée Jeglertz says he was proud of the grit and determination his Blues showed in our 1-1 stalemate with Manchester United.

Like any derby day match-up, passion, determination, intensity and emotion are heightened when Blue face Red.

And our clash in Leigh certainly provided that.

Eye-catching head-to-heads all over the pitch saw all the players fight tooth and nail for bragging rights, but ultimately no one would win them with the spoils shared in our first draw of 2026/27.

But despite the outcome, the boss was satisfied with the performance of his team.

“It’s always difficult. There is a lot of emotions from the opponent and from us also,” began Jeglertz.

“I think on the field we managed it in a good way and I always think there is something with people when we support our own team. That is the most important thing to do.

“But we battled well. There was a lot of emotions on the pitch and we dealt with it in a good way and we played how we wanted.”

Bunny Shaw’s fantastic strike on the half turn on 66 minutes was just reward for our number nine after a gruelling battle with Maya Le Tissier and Dominique Janssen.

It was the perfect way for the Jamaica international to mark her 100th Barclays Women’s Super League appearance.

The momentum of the match continued to switch from end to end with City carving out chances to find a second, with two vital goal line clearances from Le Tissier keeping her side within touching distance.

But, despite City’s best efforts, it was United who found the back of the net next.

Elisabeth Terland latched onto the ball during a frenzy in the City box and tapped home from close range on 89 minutes to see the points shared.

Whilst there were positives to take, Jeglertz has noted what he and the team will look to rectify before we welcome Paris Saint-Germain to the Joie Stadium on Thursday 29 October.

“We always want her [Shaw] to score,” added Jeglertz.

“I think for us everything is about finding ways, how can we challenge them. And I think we could have challenged them a little more in behind, but we didn’t get that many of those runs.

“We need to do that and of course there are things that we should fix and need to take care of.

“It was a tough game, a lot of teams will be challenged here and one point away is not a disaster.

“No one will go unbeaten in this league. And that is why it was important for us to, as soon as possible, take the learnings with us and move on.”
