Rayan Cherki played the last 30 minutes as France made it three wins from three in their final group game with a 4=1win over Norway.

With both nations already qualified, Erling Haaland was rested - one of 10 Norway changes -and Cherki once again started on the bench as the French went with a full strength line-up.

Kylian Mbappe struck the woodwork after just 23 seconds, setting the tone for a testing afternoon for the Norwegians.

And it wouldn’t get much better, with Ousmane Dembele striking two superb goals inside the first 20 minutes.

Theio Asgaard pulled one back immediately after Dembele’s second to halve the deficit on 21, but Dembele completed his hat-trick  on 32.

Cherki, winning his tenth cap, had to wait until the 65th minute to replace Michael Olise and had few opportunities to affect proceedings as the game wore on.

Former City winger Oscar Bobb had a guilt-edged chance to give Norway a late second before Desire Doue added a fourth in added time to give Les Bleus a 4-1 win.

France’s Round of 32 opponents are still to be confirmed while Haaland’s Norway will face Ivory Coast in Dallas next Tuesday.
