Last Meeting
We are yet to lock horns with Tottenham this season, but it was a frustrating day at the office for Pep Guardiola’s men at the start of February in our last meeting.
Second-half goals from Stephen Bergwijn and Son Heung-Min earned the hosts a 2-0 win over City, who were reduced to ten when Oleksandr Zinchenko was sent off on the hour.
Form Guide
Pep Guardiola’s men come into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw with reigning Premier League champions, Liverpool.
The stalemate extended our unbeaten run in all competitions to nine matches, but our opponents boast a similarly impressive run of form.
Tottenham have not looked back since an opening day defeat to Everton, and currently sit second in the Premier League following a last-gasp 1-0 win at West Brom.
Pep Preview
“The numbers speak for themselves. They dropped points against West Ham and Newcastle in the last minute, imagine the points if they hadn’t.
“The quality was always there. They qualified for the UCL for four or five years and reached the UCL final. They have been a good team since Pochettino took over. It is a fantastic squad.
“We are getting better. I don’t speak about Tottenham because it is not my concern.
“Because we had players recovering at the start of the season we had a lot of problems. Except for Nathan and Ferna, the rest have started to come back.
“We have a lot of games and that’s why it is important to have everybody fit.”
Jose Mourinho Preview
“I see a team that wants to win every title, every game, year after year.
“Amazing coach, amazing players, incredible investment and their objectives never change so they are a top team.
“Basically they are the kind of opponent that if you don’t do it for 90 minutes you don’t win, if you don’t do it in certain aspects of the game you don’t win so you have to perform at a high level.”
We’re Not Really Here Show
Gareth Barry will make his first guest appearance on our We’re Not Really Here match day show as we take on Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
He played 175 times for City, scoring eight goals, helping us win the 2011 FA Cup and 2012 Premier League, and left an indelible mark during his four year stay at the Etihad.
Barry will team up with fellow former City players, Joleon Lescott and Michael Brown as well as presenter, Cel Spellman, to provide in-depth analysis and opinion ahead of Saturday’s tea-time clash in North London.
We’re Not Really Here provides a City focused perspective to your pre-match build-up and begins one hour before kick-off at 16:30 (UK).
You can tune in on all of our official digital platforms, whilst during the game there will be live commentary and footage of fans around the world, which you can enjoy exclusively on mancity.com and our official app.
