Pep Guardiola says he was 'so proud' to be asked to feature on the hit Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso.

Guardiola was Lasso’s opposite number in a recent episode with the fictional AFC Richmond making the trip to the Etihad Stadium to face City.

At the end of the game, the two managers have a brief conversation on the touchline to congratulate each other on a hard fought match.

Guardiola praises Lasso and imparts some of the wisdom he has accumulated during his glittering managerial career.

The Catalan has now revealed how the motivation for getting involved in the programme came from his wife and daughter.

“As a family we are big fans,” he said.

“My daughter Valentina and my wife enjoy the show a lot, especially the first season.

“When they ask me for a cameo I said ‘why not?’. I could meet the actors and after one of the last games at the Etihad they came and we talked again. It was nice.”

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Sunday’s trip to Brentford, Guardiola also pointed out how working with a major television production is further evidence of City’s growth during his tenure.

He has guided the Club to five of the last six Premier League titles and will compete in his second FA Cup and Champions League finals as City boss next month.

“We are so proud,” he said.

“To come to make people around the world know more who we are. These are little steps to show how the club works and who we were in the past.”
