Pep Guardiola hailed another crucial contribution from Gabriel Jesus after the Brazilian struck for the second time in successive games to set City on the way to a 2-0 win at Burnley.

Just as he did in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United, Jesus claimed a vital early goal at Turf Moor, heading home after Bernardo Silva’s shot had been parried.

With Raheem Sterling adding a second shortly before the break, it ensured City secured a 13th consecutive win in all competitions.

And as he reflected on our latest success, the manager again reiterated his delight at Jesus’s important all-round contribution to the team.

“There are no doubts about Gabriel,” Guardiola declared. “We are delighted with Gabriel all the time.

“We have been together for a long time.

“The strikers need to score goals. Last game he gave us three points and today he gave us the start.

“Of course, we need his goals. He knows that but his contribution in many ways is fantastic.”

The victory moved City three points clear at the top of the Premier League with the focus now switching to Sunday’s huge league assignment away at reigning champions Liverpool.

For his part however, the boss said he and his players would rest and recuperate before starting preparations in earnest for the trip to Anfield.

“Right now we enjoy this game and tomorrow we start to think about the next game,” Guardiola declared.

“It is the same points, but against a contender. At the end the aim is to be champion.

“Against teams lower in the table people can say it’s guaranteed but we know how difficult it is.

“We had to do our best and now we face a different team with a different type of play. Now come another tough, tough group of games.

“Today we enjoy the game, have good food and tomorrow we start to think about Liverpool.”
