Summerbee presents OBE to Etihad crowd

Mike Summerbee was at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to present his OBE to Manchester City fans.

Ahead of kick-off in our FA Cup quarter-final with Burnley, Summerbee walked out to the touchline and received a standing ovation from all sides of the Etihad Stadium.

Our Club Ambassador received the honour from His Royal Highness Prince William earlier this month for his services to football and charity.

The 80-year-old, who has represented the Club with huge distinction on and off the pitch for more than 55 years, was awarded the OBE last summer as part of the birthday honours of the late Queen Elizabeth the second.

During today's celebration he even had time for a quick catch up with former Club captain and current Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, as pictured below.

Summerbee is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest figures in City’s history.

He made more than 700 appearances over the course of a 20-year career, 451 of which came at City, where he won every honour available in the English game along with the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

Since retiring, the former winger has continued to make a huge contribution to City in his role as Club Ambassador.

He has also been an active campaigner for Prostate Cancer UK following his recovery from the disease, whilst also supporting Manchester’s Christie Hospital, a specialist cancer treatment centre.
