Mike Summerbee, Paul Power, Ian Brightwell and Nicky Weaver were all on hand at the CFA to chat about their memories of playing at our famous old ground.
We couldn’t have picked four better names to take part in this ‘Maine Road 100’ special feature as they all hold special places in the hearts of City fans young and old.
Summerbee, nicknamed ‘Buzzer’, was an incisive, goal-scoring right winger and a key component in the team that won four trophies between 1968 and 1970. Alongside teammates Colin Bell and Francis Lee, he was the third member of the “Holy Trinity”.
City fan Power enjoyed over a decade playing in his beloved sky blue - and was captain for seven of those years.
Supporters adored Power’s passion and determination whenever he put on the shirt and he was famously skipper of the team that achieved promotion back to the top-flight in 1984/85, leading the side out in one of Maine Road’s most memorable games - a 5-1 mauling of Charlton on the final day.
Brightwell came up through City’s youth system and was part of the team that won the 1986 FA Youth Cup, beating rivals United 3-1 on aggregate over two legs.
That team also boated the likes of Andy Hinchcliffe, Steve Redmond, David White, Paul Lake and Paul Moulden.

Brightwell went on to make 380 appearances over 12 seasons, excelling in both defence or midfield, and he played in two of our famous games – a 5-1 mauling of United in 1989 and a 5-2 demolition of Tottenham in 1994.
Nicky Weaver is a name that will forever be etched in Manchester City history.
Signed in 1997 by Mansfield Town on the recommendation of Alex Stepney, Weaver helped earn the sky blues promotion from the Second Division in 1999 as a penalty hero in the Play-Off final shootout with Gillingham at Wembley Stadium.
The popular keeper would go on to earn promotion to the Premier League the following season – and three times in total during his City career - making 207 appearances over a 10-year spell.
