Jeremy Doku was happy with his performance against Brighton but says he will get even better.

The 21-year-old was named player of the match after being a huge attacking threat and setting up Julian Alvarez for the opening goal in City’s 2-1 victory.

Joining from French side Stade Rennais on a five-year deal in the summer, Doku has already made a big impact in the opening months of the season.

But the 21-year-old winger says he is still learning about playing alongside his team-mates and enjoying every moment of discovering how good the squad is.

“I’m starting to learn when to go and when not to go in the moments,” he said. “[Against Brighton] it was successful, and I had a nice assist.

“I think I could have had a couple of goals from some shots that were off-target. It’s what I’m going to learn in the training sessions.

“I’m happy with the assist and it was a good game for myself. I’ll keep on learning and how to play with my team-mates.

“I’m enjoying every day that I’m here. Every day I wake up and go to the training ground I am happy because playing and performing in this big team is a dream come true.”

Pep Guardiola has options in his attacking line-up as he uses his squad to maintain a challenge in the Premier League and Champions League.

With Doku’s assist and goals for Alvarez and Erling Haaland, his front three made a big contribution in the win over the Seagulls.

“It was a nice shot [from Erling] - from nowhere,” Doku added. “We all know his qualities so I’m not really surprised - I know he’s a goalscorer and I know he will always score.

“We can always count on him. Besides the goal, he was also very important for us - keeping the ball in difficult situations, he had a great game.

“It’s the same for Julian too - a nice goal and I’m happy he scored with my assist. Hopefully we can keep going like this.”

Despite racing in a two-goal lead, Brighton kept pushing to try to get something from the game, but Doku was pleased with the team’s performance.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game - we were prepared for it, we had to be aggressive and on the second balls and we did that,” he said.

“I’m very happy - we needed this win after some difficult games. We are very happy about the result but also the way we played - especially in the first half. We had a lot of spaces and a lot of runs.

“We are a team that want to have the ball and it’s what we did. We wanted to create some space and we had it. We know we are fast on the front and when we have space, we can take advantage of it.

“It’s what we did, and we scored some nice goals. We also had a lot of chances in the first half so it could have been more.”
