OPPOSING MANAGER - FRANCESCO FARIOLI

After a disappointing year at Ajax, the Italian introduced himself to the Portuguese giants in spectacular fashion, masterminding the team’s cruise to the Primeira Liga title in his first season at the helm.

The coach prioritises vision, structure and innovation in his teams, with defensive solidarity a huge factor for his recent success.

He tends to deploy a 4-3-3 formation, with importance on high pressing, tight defensive transitions and build-up play from the back.

PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last trip to the Dragao came in December 2020, where a goalless draw secured Champions League top-spot for City in Group C.

City had a number of good chances after the break and also saw a late goal ruled out by VAR as the hosts scrapped their way to the 0-0 draw.
