In one of our closest Etihad Player of the Month polls yet, John Stones just edged out Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland to claim the April prize.

Though all three were superb throughout April, Stones takes the award having featured in seven games, scored two goals, and assisted one other as well.

The England defender, adapting to a new role in many games, has often tucked inside from right-back to take up a more central position – and has done it superbly, taking man of the match awards on a number of occasions.

His two goals were a bit special as well.

A thunderous left-foot half volley against Leicester is also up for the Nissan Goal of the Month award and his excellent header against Arsenal – ruled onside after a lengthy VAR check – couldn’t have been better timed.

After the game against the Gunners, Stones said of the City fans who have echoed his name around the Etihad all season: “It’s touching, it really is touching to hear that song and people singing it for me.

WIN  A SIGNED JOHN STONES SHIRT!

“This is my home and probably always will be, from the moment I came. To hear the fans singing my name, I think there’s mutual love between us.

“It really touches me, and I always try and make sure that our fans know that I appreciate what they do, not just for me but for everyone and they get behind us on big occasions like this.

“I try to do them proud and produce for them, and little goals and days like today, I’m sure they go home very happy.”

Congratulations from everyone at Manchester City to John on his award.
