Ederson played the full 90 minutes as Brazil opened their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign with an emphatic 5-1 win over Bolivia in Belem on Saturday.

On the night where Al-Hilal forward Neymar overtook the legendary Pele to become the country’s leading male goalscorer, City’s goalkeeper produced a characteristically assured performance at the Estádio Olímpico do Pará.

In an often frustrating first half for Tite’s side, Real Madrid forward Rodrygo broke the deadlock in the 24th minute which proved to be the only goal before the interval.

However, the five-time world champions discovered their cutting edge in the final third during the second period as Barcelona winger Raphinha netted seconds after the restart.

Rodrygo then bagged his second of the evening shortly after to extend their lead further before Neymar took centre stage by scoring a brace which took him to a record 79 goals for Brazil.

His first of the night arrived when he swept home from just inside the box which sparked emotional scenes as he surpassed Pele’s tally of 77.

Bolivia then pulled a goal back when Victor Abrego drove from halfway into the hosts’ box and unleashed an unstoppable effort into the top corner before Neymar restored their four-goal lead in stoppage time.

Next up for Tite’s men is a World Cup qualifier with Peru on Wednesday 13 September.
