Julian Alvarez has expressed his delight after netting a stunning winner against Fulham, propelling us to the top of the Premier League.

Alvarez played his part in both goals at Craven Cottage, as he was fouled by Tim Ream in the opening minutes to provide a spot-kick for Erling Haaland, who coolly slotted into the corner.

The hosts struck back through Carlos Vinicius, before Alvarez restored our lead with a ferocious strike from 24 yards which nestled into the top corner, which proved to be the winner.

The goal takes his total across all competitions to 15 and the Argentine was elated after his goal and the three points.

“It was a very important win for us today,” he said. “Every game from here on out is a final.

“Especially after the win against Arsenal, we’ll be able to catch up. We need to keep this going.

“It was really nice to score here, a really important goal at an important point of the match. Really nice to contribute.

“We knew it would never be easy coming here because of the pitch, because of how good Fulham are as a team. We were very happy to withstand the pressure and hold out.”

Alvarez, who was named as the Player of the Match after an energetic display, was also full of praise for strike-partner Haaland, who claimed his 50th goal of the season across all competitions.

“It’s very important to have such a dangerous forward, he’s scoring so many goals,” he declared.

“It’s on the whole team to be able to play throughout the phase as a whole so we need to keep that going.”

The three points takes us into top spot at the expense of Arsenal, with Pep Guardiola‘s men still having a game in hand on the Gunners.

Alvarez is eager for City to defend the top spot with all our power and might, ahead of a crucial run of fixtures to end the campaign.

“This is where we wanted to be at the start of the season. Everyone’s put in really good work and now we’ve reached the top we need to defend it.

“Every game is a final for us and everyone’s going to pull together to make that final effort.”
