Three assists and one goal in a 4-0 win on your debut – not a bad way to mark your 19th birthday…

Patrick Roberts wasted no time ingratiating himself to the Celtic faithful as he made an incredible start to life North of the Border on Friday afternoon.

The City loanee made a hat-trick of assists and even got on the scoresheet himself in Celtic u21s’ 4-0 win over Motherwell in Greenock.

Just four days after his 18 month loan to the reigning Scottish champions was confirmed, Roberts completed the 90 minutes as the Hoops ran out handsome winners at Cappielow.

Still working his way back from the injury which has kept him out of contention in Manchester for the last couple of months, it was a valuable run-out for our talented youngster as he aims to work his way into the first-team set-up in Glasgow.

Roberts jinked in from the right to feed Regan Hendry for Celtic’s first after ten minutes, before exchanging passes with Hendry oncemore for the second five minutes into the second half.

It was three on 65 minutes when Roberts’ low cross was turned in by a Motherwell defender and his dream day was complete when Patrick fired a shot beyond the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.

The first-team are next in action on Sunday when they travel to East Kilbride in the Scottish Cup and it’s fair to say that Celtic supporters are clamouring for their England u19s international loan star to be involved...
