Manchester City face Derby County in the Premier League 2 on Friday but where will the match be decided?

Simon Davies’ side sit second in the table behind Everton and can narrow the gap to two points with victory at the Academy Stadium before the leader’s fixture with Tottenham on Monday.

Having suffered only two defeats so far this season, City will go into the match full of confidence. However, having not played since 13 March, will there be any rust to shake off?

Who will play a key role?

Cameron Humphreys v Alex Babos

Humphreys is one of several City players likely to feature on Friday night that will have had 25 days since his last match by kick-off.

The centre-back has continued to be a calm, composed presence for City throughout the season and will be eager to get back on to the pitch and impress.

Up against Alex Babos, one of Derby’s chief creative influences, Humphreys should be able to physically dominate. Babos likes to arrive late in the box or take shots from distance and Humphreys stepping out of defence to stop the attacking midfielder could be crucial at stages for City.

Lukas Nmecha v Calum McDonald

In stark contrast to Humphreys, Nmecha has been busier than ever in the weeks since City’s Emirates Stadium draw.

The England U19 striker has helped his national side to this summer’s European Championship before coming back to score his second hat-trick in two matches to take City’s U18s to the FA Youth Cup final.

Nmecha is riding the crest of a wave at the moment and should he start on Friday night, Derby defender Calum McDonald will be tasked with stopping him. Powerful and fierce in protection of the ball and ice cool in goalscoring situations, it’s hard to imagine Nmecha going through a match without finding the net at the moment.

Man City v Derby County in the Premier League 2 will kick-off at 7pm on Friday 7 April at the Academy Stadium. Head to the ticket website for more information on how you can be there or follow the match on mancity.com!
