Academy Director Thomas Kruecken has announced a new Youth Development structure with Oliver Reiss named as the new Head Coach of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad.

Reiss replaces Ben Wilkinson who left the position in June to become a first team coach at Derby County.

The restructure follows a fantastic year for the Academy which saw eight academy players make their senior Men’s First-Team debuts in 2025/26.

German coach, Reiss, joined City in July 2024 and has spent two seasons as the Lead Coach of our Under-18s.

He follows Wilkinson who made the move from the Under-18s to the EDS in the summer of 2024.

Assistant EDS coach Lauris Coggin will now take over as the new Head Coach of the Under-18s.

U16-EDS Head of Coaching Jan-Moritz Lichte is also leaving the Club, with Jose Castro replacing him.

“Firstly, I would like to thank Ben for his fantastic service to the Academy during his eight years at the Club in different roles and for all his exemplary work with our young players,” Kruecken said.

“We’re excited about the new structure and in Oliver and Lauris we have two of the most knowledgeable and intelligent coaches in youth football.

“Their appointments show the pathway for coaches that are embedded at Manchester City and the Academy, from Enzo Maresca to right through the Club.

“It is part of the culture we want to have here, whether it’s players or coaches, there is a real opportunity for progression.

“There’s a huge amount of playing talent in our Academy and it’s vitally important that we get the right people in place for our culture and to help their development.”

Reiss, who had just over a decade coaching youth teams at Hertha Berlin before moving to City, has enjoyed great success during his two seasons with the Under-18s.

In his first season, they won 21 successive games on the way to the Under-18 Premier League North title.

And we won the prestigious FA Youth Cup, beating Manchester United in the final, as well as the Under-18 Premier League North last season.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to thank Ben and Jan-Moritz for their hard work during their time at the Club and congratulate Oliver and Lauris on their new roles.
