The 20-year-old joined the German side on loan in January for the second half of 2025/26.
He went on to make 11 Bundesliga appearances, helping Koln to a 14th-place finish.
It wasn’t Simpson-Pusey’s first taste of senior football. In the first half of last season, the centre-back joined Scottish Premiership side Celtic on loan.
Prior to that, he made his senior debut for Pep Guardiola’s side in 2024/25, featuring as a second-half substitute in City’s 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.
Simpson-Pusey played five more times for the first team whilst also captaining our Premier League 2 squad to league phase and play-off victory.
Other accolades for the boyhood Blue, who joined our Academy at Under-9s, include being named the Premier League 2 Player of the Season in 2023/24 and he captained City’s Under-18s to FA Youth Cup glory at the Etihad in 2024 when we beat Leeds United 4-0.
Speaking on his departure from Manchester, Simpson-Pusey said: “After just over a decade at Manchester City, my time as a Blue has come to an end.
“I’d like to thank everyone at the Club who has helped me on my journey and to have made my senior debut for City will always hold a special place in my heart.
“I am excited for my new adventure, and I would like to wish everyone at the Club every success going forward.”
Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Jahmai the very best of luck for this next stage in his career.
