Ashton Muir believes that his impressive performance was down to the team’s good display as Manchester City Under-18s recorded a sixth league win on the bounce.

Ben Wilkinson’s side grabbed two quick goals in the first half which came through Muir as we overcame Stoke 3-0 in our latest Under-18 Premier League North clash at the CFA.

The opener came when Farid Alfa-Ruprecht raced down the right-hand side, his thunderous strike could only be pushed to the side by Stoke shot stopper Ben Houston, and Muir was there to fire home on the half an hour mark.

Two minutes later, neat build up play by on the edge of the area resulted in Muir laying the ball off to Tom Galvez who took aim and met the back of net to get the important second goal.

Justin Oboavwoduo made it three in the second half after disposing the visitors and curling it past the Stoke keeper after spotting him off his line.

Speaking in his post-match interview with mancity.com, the 17-year-old said he was delighted with the win.

“It was pretty good,” Muir expressed. “We started well and got two goals early, we struggled a bit in the second half but got through in the end.

On accessing his own performance, the winger took time to praise the coach’s and team’s impact on his own contribution.

“I thought I played pretty good, but it was about the good team performance, that won us the game.

“Coaches always say to me to keep getting in at the far post and I need to do that more often, but I did that today because I had a feeling that the keeper was going to parry it to me.

“Ben said to keep moving the ball around as Stoke will get tired and it will open them up and that’s what we did, we grabbed the third goal from pressing their midfield.”
