City Football Group is pleased to announce it has joined Women In Football’s Corporate Membership scheme, as part of the Group’s long term strategy to identify new opportunities for employees to support their career development.

The announcement follows a number of successful initiatives developed by the Group over the last decade to increase women’s participation in sport, including the re-launch of Manchester City Women’s Football Club in 2014, pioneering a new approach to women’s football with full integration into the men’s set up – a first for English football.

Initiatives also include Same City Same Passion, which saw the merging of Manchester City’s men’s and women’s social media channels in 2018 to create an elevated platform for women’s football by demonstrating that the same skills, same excitement, and same passion exist wherever a ball is kicked.

Alongside this, Manchester City’s #SameGoals project has created a movement to inspire the next generation of women footballers by gifting footballs to girls around the world to encourage participation.

Off the pitch, Manchester City recently launched its Young Women’s Leadership Programme, a 12-month scheme open to women from across Greater Manchester aimed at supporting career development by combining face-to-face training, remote mentoring, and digital networking with women across the football club from a range of departments.

Several young women from local universities are also currently working with the Club’s Academy on a paid internship to develop their knowledge of the football industry as part of the Euro 2022 Legacy programme.

City Football Group’s latest initiative with Women In Football will build on the wide ranging activities the Group has delivered to date, working closely with the Group’s established Women’s Network, to provide employees with access to industry-leading training courses, bespoke leadership programmes and mentoring from expert consultants.

To celebrate the launch of the new initiative, City Football Group will host a special event at the Etihad Stadium later this evening ahead of the 2022 UEFA Women’s European Championships, bringing together employees and representatives from Women in Football.

Commenting on the new initiative between City Football Group and Women In Football, Group Chief Operating Officer, Roel de Vries said: “At City Football Group we are committed to creating opportunities to enable all of our employees to succeed and this new initiative with Women In Football is an important part of that.

Over the coming months colleagues across the Group will work closely with representatives from Women In Football to build on the work that has already been undertaken across the Group – both on and off the pitch – to ensure that we can continue to develop our people and support their career aspirations.”
