England U17s completed their domination of the Croatia Cup with an 8-1 victory over Germany – with lots of help from City stars.

Curtis Anderson, Joel Latibeaudiere, Phil Foden, Ian Carlo Poveda and Jadon Sancho all played crucial roles as the Young Lions beat Croatia, Greece and their German rivals to seal the trophy.

The City stars continued their fine form after an unbeaten start to the U18 Premier League season.

It began last Wednesday evening as Steve Cooper’s team saw off the hosts with a convincing 5-0 victory.

Although Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster scored a hat-trick, it was City’s Jadon Sancho that got the ball rolling for England.

The winger dribbled inside from his familiar left wing position, beat two defenders as he entered the box and curled an unstoppable shot inside the far post to give England the lead inside ten minutes.

As well as Sancho, City goalkeeper Curtis Anderson, defender Joel Latibeaudiere and midfielder Phil Foden all started and impressed as England dominated proceedings.

The Three Lions followed that up on Friday afternoon with another emphatic victory; this time beating Greece 3-0.

Due to the exertions of the opening match, Steve Cooper fielded a much changed side, giving City midfielder Ian Carlo Poveda the chance to start.

The London-born creative spark played a pivotal role in the victory but couldn’t add his name to the scoresheet as Danny Loader, Emile Smith-Rowe and Callum Hudson-Odoi found the net.

Poveda was joined on the pitch by Sancho and Foden who were second half substitutes.

Finally, England guaranteed the trophy with an 8-1 thumping of Germany on Monday afternoon. All five of City’s stars featured with Poveda being the only one not to start.

Jadon Sancho scored England’s second on the day and although Curtis Anderson conceded England’s only goal in the tournament a few minutes later, the 16-year-old put in another impressive showing.

With the score at 2-1 after half an hour, Phil Foden set England on the road to total domination when he added the third in typically composed fashion.

With City stars making up the core of such an entertaining England side, the future may be bright for both club and country.

Sancho, Foden, Latibeaudiere, Poveda and Anderson will next be in action for the Blues against Derby on the 15 October.
