Watch the best of the action from City's WSL curtain-raiser against Birmingham City.

Andrée Jeglertz’s side got our defence of the WSL title off to a strong start with a 3-1 victory at the Joie Stadium.

City had to wait until the second half to breach the visitors’ stubborn defence - spearheaded by an impressive Sophie Baggaley in goal - but got our noses in front soon after the restart.

Mary Fowler opened the scoring in the 49th minute, our 1,000th goal as a professional outfit, before Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw doubled our advantage ahead of the hour mark.

City had finished the 2025/26 WSL campaign with the most set piece goals in the entire division, and picked up where we left off when the Jamaican glanced home Kerstin Casparij’s corner.

She then repeated the trick late on when powering Beth Mead’s cross into the back of the net to put the result beyond doubt and ensure  Oceane Hurtre’s late goal was only a consolation.
