Former Manchester City and England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley has been impressed with the way Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has adapted her game to suit Gareth Taylor’s playing style.

The Jamaican international is the Barclays Women’s Super League top scorer as things stand and has been in red hot form this season.

She has helped the Blues record back-to-back league victories in recent weeks, scoring a brace in those wins against Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

Shaw netted nine goals in 17 WSL appearances in her debut season, a total she is well on the way to eclipsing, having already scored five goals in four games at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

And Bardsley says she enjoyed watching the striker put her own stamp on games.

“She’s been wicked, especially with her head. I think Bunny has really found her own with the playing style that Taylor has implemented,” she said.

“She’s looking a lot more comfortable and confident in her role.

“She’s worked so hard finding her own feet, especially in the first half of last season.

“It’s about our ethos, and we want to win the ball high up the pitch so I love that from her.

“I love that she’s brave enough to put her head on the end of everything. I’ve really been enjoying watching her play and see where she fits.

“I popped in the training ground the other day and she’s such a huge personality, the accent as well! It’s so fun to be around her.”

City face Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening in the curtain-raiser of this season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup.

Gareth Taylor’s side will be looking to get off to the perfect start in our defence of the Conti Cup, with Shaw topping the goalscoring charts in last season’s competition.

She will undoubtedly be looking to hit the ground running once again.
