Gareth Taylor believes winning the Continental Cup could act as important motivation for the rest of City's season.

And standing between City and the League Cup final is a tough Emma Hayes side.

City welcome Chelsea to the Joie Stadium on Thursday 7 March, with kick-off scheduled for 19:15 (UK).

If Taylor’s team can overcome the Barclays Women’s Super League champions, City will face either Arsenal or Aston Villa at Molineux Stadium.

And the boss believes winning the first piece of silverware of the 2023/24 season would be phenomenal.

“It would be amazing, absolutely amazing,” said Taylor.

“Sometimes people frown a little bit on the League Cup in both the men and women’s game but it’s a trophy.

“When we won it previously it set us up for the rest of the season. It’s a great trophy.

“Nothing will change if we are not successful. But if we can do it it would be amazing.

“Nothing against Chelsea because this is the rules, but they drop into the comp at the quarter-final whereas we have had to really fight to be here.”
