Gareth Taylor applauded Lauren Hemp’s performance on Saturday afternoon after her second-half brace helped City beat Aston Villa 2-1.

The visitors took the lead in the first half through a sublime Danielle Turner volley but Hemp’s five-minute brace saw City take all three points and move to second in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The two goals were her 58th and 59th goals in blue from her five years at the Club and, highlighting her fine form in 2023/24, the England international has now tallied nine goal contributions in 10 appearances in all competitions.

And the boss was full of praise for Hemp who he believes is showcasing some of her best football in her career to date.

“I think at the moment, this last half a dozen games I’ve seen her game go to really high levels,” said Taylor.

“Sometimes that’s not always rewarded with goals or assists but when she plays on that front foot with a bit between her teeth, she really is a force to be reckoned with.

“We always support her in the moments where she’s not quite performing, as we always do, because we know the ability is there and the potential is there.

“We are talking about a very young player who has done so much in the game. She was amazing.”
