Taylor: We handled the game really well

Gareth Taylor was delighted with the manner of our hard-fought 2-0 Continental Cup triumph over Liverpool.

A ninth successive victory in all competitions was secured courtesy of second half goals from Filippa Angeldahl and Mary Fowler.

City are now top of Conti Cup Group B, leapfrogging Liverpool while maintaining our 100% start to the competition in the process.

Taylor made eight changes from the side who beat Brighton in the Barclays Women's Super League at the weekend, but was proud with how the team negotiated a potentially tricky encounter.

“[Liverpool] never give you anything cheap and they keep going until the end," the boss said.

"I have to say, I thought the way we handled the game tonight was spot on.

“We made quite a few changes, still had loads of experience and good players in there.

"I thought, in the second half especially, the way we controlled the game was spot and we scored two brilliant goals.”

“It’s a different type of competition, where you know you have to be effective in the group and go out and win games. You don’t play for draws.

"We knew tonight’s game was probably the one that decided the group so we still have a little bit of work to do, but we look forward to that.

“To come here and play the way we did and to get the result is great."
