Gareth Taylor says the proposal for a purpose-built training facility at the City Football Academy would represent the ‘next step’ for our Women’s team.

The Club submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council for a stand-alone facility earlier this week, designed to house our Women’s team operations, with plans to open in 2025 should it receive approval.

Having already become the first Barclays Women’s Super League side to secure a commercial agreement for our Stadium naming rights in September 2023, this marks another significant moment in City’s development off the pitch, as we continue to fight for major honours on it.

Taylor revealed that he and the squad had been involved in the initial planning stages, before expressing his personal excitement at the prospect of the purpose-built facility.

“I think it’ll just be the next step in our journey, and a big one,” the boss said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Durham.

“We have really benefitted from being in a shared environment at the CFA for 10 years, and that’s allowed us to see some really good integration across all levels, whether that be with players, coaches or performance staff.

“It’s fantastic for us but to make the next step where we can really push the levels is to have our own space and environment while still being on the same site.

“It’s a significant step for us and one we’re excited about.

“There’s been really good integration in that respect of asking what we would like.

“There has to be a point where the site can only be so big… but it’s about maximising the opportunity and this site that we have and making it almost multi-purpose in many respects.

“We can have a social space that can double up as something else, that’s great and those conversations have been good, well heard and well received.”
