In the wake of what was a superb campaign last season which saw Jeglertz’s side lift both the Women’s Super League title and FA Cup, City’s achievements have been recognised with a host of nominations for this year’s Ballon d’Or awards– widely recognised as the most prestigious honours in the game.
Jeglertz has been shortlisted for the Coach of the Year award whilst five players – Kerstin Casparij, Alex Greenwood, Yui Hasegawa, Vivianne Miedema and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw – are all up for the coveted Women’s Player of the Year prize.
On top of that, Ayaka Yamashita is amongst the contenders for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
Reflecting on the nominations at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s first WSL away match of the new season at Aston Villa, the City boss said it was a huge honour both for him and his players.
“Yeah, it’s a fantastic thing for the club, for us,” Jeglertz said.
“Personally, to be nominated is a big recognition from what we did last year.
“Of course, I’m honoured and it means a lot to me, but it also shows something of what we did last year, and that it was unique.”

Jeglertz also spoke of his delight following news earlier today that both Aoba Fujino and Laura Blindkilde Brown had signed new long-term contracts with City, with the pair penning deals that will take them through to the summer of 2030.
“It means a lot. I think we want to compete at the highest level and definitely work to that by these two young players feeling this is the best environment for them to grow,” the boss added.
“Wanting to be part of that journey means a lot and they’re trusting what the club presents for the future.
I’m very pleased and both of them were magnificent last year and started this one very well.”
