Pep Guardiola says goals from all on-field departments isn’t an issue for City following our narrow 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle.

In a closely fought encounter, where the boss made eight changes from our 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, the Magpies’ Alexander Isak scored the only goal of the game at St James’ Park.

It was the first time we’ve been unable to notch a goal in a competitive match this season after scoring an impressive 20 times across the eight games before our trip to Tyneside.

But Guardiola doesn’t believe strikers Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland are carrying the majority of the goalscoring responsibilities with the Norway international an unused substitute against Eddie Howe’s men.

“We have scored a lot of goals since I arrived here,” he declared.

“Did you see the statistics of how many goals? With different strikers without strikers, with different wingers and attacking midfielders.

“Newcastle is a top side defensively, they are so strong in all departments they work really really well. Everyone knows it.  It’s not easy to do it.

“Before half-time we had our chances, but for the last ball for the last action and this is what I’m looking for from my team.

“I thought Kyle has had a lot of minutes and Erling a lot of minutes and we have a lot of games ahead of us. Maybe for the last 10 or 15 minutes but I decided not to do it.”
