Pep Guardiola admitted Jack Grealish was distraught after having to be substituted in the first half of City’s 6-2 win over Luton Town.

Grealish had not played since coming off in the first half of our Champions League victory over FC Copenhagen earlier this month but returned to the starting line-up for this FA Cup fifth round tie.

Unfortunately, the maverick midfielder had to be replaced by Jeremy Doku after 38 minutes and Guardiola believes it could well be a recurrence of his previous groin problem.

Grealish was visibly upset as he watched the rest of the game from the bench.

And the manager encouraged his August 2021 signing from Aston Villa to recuperate and support the team when he’s back in action again.

“I didn’t speak to the doctor yet but I think he complained about the groin, so maybe quite similar,” admitted the boss.

“He felt really, really good but unfortunately he was injured again at the beginning of the game.”

Asked if Grealish was distraught, the manager added: “Of course.

“It has been a tough season for him so now he has to recover well and help us when he is able to come back.”
