Pep Guardiola was impressed with the ‘exceptional’ performances of Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden in the 4-0 victory over Brighton.

De Bruyne opened the scoring while Foden blasted past 50 Premier League goals with a brace against the Seagulls.

The flair pair starred centrally as the boss opted to play without any recognised wingers.

The decision was a masterstroke and the manager was impressed with the display of KDB and Foden in a result which put us up into second spot, one point behind Arsenal with a game in hand as we chase down four titles in a row.

“The way they defend, we decided to play that way without wingers and more fullbacks,” Pep told journalists.

“They did really well. We found them with the process from Bernardo. Bernardo and Kova and the two central defenders.

“They did exceptional and that provokes the spaces for them. And they did really well.”

Guardiola was also happy to pick up the three points, despite the absence of Erling Haaland.

Our star striker missed the Chelsea and Brighton games after having come off in the Champions League exit to Real Madrid.

The manager thinks 2022/23’s Premier League Player and Young Player of the Year is improving but he doesn’t know when he’ll be back.

“I prefer to have Erling at my disposal.

“I spoke with him. He says he feels better. I don’t know.”
