Pep Guardiola says he has challenged Bernardo Silva to score more goals.

The Portuguese playmaker backed up his Man of the Match performance in last weekend’s derby and a ninth placed finish at this year’s Ballon d’Or with two goals against Bournemouth on Saturday.

He combined with Jeremy Doku for both, sliding his first home before a delicate chip added his second in the closing minutes.

He has now scored 56 times in 317 appearances for City.

Guardiola was full of praise for his No.20 - even comparing his second strike to a goal Lionel Messi might score.

The boss says he has told Bernardo he can add more goals to his excellent all-round game.

“What can I say about him? He is playing holding, on the right, on the left,” he said in his post-match press conference on Saturday.

“I push him to score goals, it’s the next step in his career. You are an incredibly good player.

“The last goal reminded me of Messi, the way he did it. He’s an extraordinary player.”
