After promotion back to the Premier League, City boss Joe Royle had an exciting forward line with Wanchope, Shaun Goater and Ballon d’Or winner George Weah.
Unfortunately, it ended in relegation although Wanchope finished with 10 goals including a brilliant backheel in a win at Leicester that gave us hope of survival.
Injuries hit his availability during the following promotion season although he still managed 13 goals from 18 appearances including another hat-trick against Burnley.
He was unfortunately out for the whole of the 2002/03 season before six goals from 13 matches the following season including two in a 5-1 win over Everton in his final appearance.
