Nathan Ake expressed his delight with City’s performance after a 2-0 victory at the Etihad against Sheffield United.

Rodrigo opened the scoring after being allowed to drive towards the Sheffield United penalty area unchallenged, before unleashing a shot that went across Wes Foderingham and into the net.

Into the second half, Julian Alvarez tapped in Phil Foden’s cross to grab the second and put the game beyond the visitors.

After the match, Nathan Ake spoke highly of his teammates for ending a fantastic 2023 on a high.

“Perfect [way to end 2023], clean sheet, two goals, three points, today is a good day,” he expressed.

“It was a very good finish [from Rodrigo] and an important goal too.

“They are a very good defensive side and it was difficult to create chances, so we needed a bit of magic and he showed that.

“After that, especially in the second half, we controlled the game.”
