Pep Guardiola has stated he told his players to turn their attention to Thursday night's clash with Tottenham Hotspur immediately after last Saturday's defeat to Manchester United.

The Blues suffered a 2-1 loss at Old Trafford after a late comeback from the hosts following a Jack Grealish header.

However, Guardiola, who today celebrates his 52nd birthday, ordered his side to move on from that disappointment.

With Antonio Conte’s Spurs in fifth place in the Premier League, the boss knows we will have to be at our best to claim the three points at the Etihad Stadium.

“It’s over. It is the past,”  said Guardiola when asked about his reflections on the Manchester derby.

“We are not going to change anything now so focus on Tottenham.

“Two minutes later in the dressing room that was my message to the team. Focus against Tottenham.

“We have to improve our game and gain control. This is what big teams have to do.

“To create chances you have to play good. Make a good build-up, put the ball inside, spread the defensive lines. We struggled to do that in the last two games.”
