Fernández played a wonderful pass into the right channel for Antoine Semenyo to set up Haaland’s goal, which proved to be enough for all three points at the Etihad Stadium, maintaining our winning start to the new campaign.
Fernández was originally named on the bench, but after an injury in the pre-match warm up to Nico O’Reilly, the Argentine was drafted into the starting team.
Ndiaye, who was also signed on deadline day, was a dangerous presence on the flank for 87 minutes.
“I think they did a really good game, both of them,” said Haaland in his interview with City Studios after the game. “Enzo came in and did really well on the goal and had some chances actually, he could have scored. He did well.
“And Ndiaye you can see his quality straight away. The way he dribbles past players, just gliding through. It was amazing to see.
“There’s a reason why they were brought by us, because they have quality. For them it’s about getting into the team as quickly as possible and getting the rhythm in.
“And of course performing, because that’s what we have to do.”
The striker also spoke about his blossoming relationship on the pitch with Rayan Cherki, touched on the team’s desire and character, and looked ahead to Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League return.
