Today marks the 50th anniversary of our European Cup Winners' Cup win.

A Joe Mercer side full of men who would go on to cement their status as City legends defeated Polish outfit Gornik Zabrze 2-1 at Vienna’s Prater Stadium to lift what remains the Club’s only continental title.

Having won the League Cup earlier that season, first half goals from Neil Young and birthday boy Francis Lee paved the way to glory.

To commemorate this 50th anniversary, we have unearthed some rare footage - taken by goalkeeper Harry Dowd - of the celebrations that followed our famous win in Vienna.

Dowd, clearly ahead of his time technologically, captured the players on the plane home and the open-top, as well as the festivities with fans at the civic reception at Manchester Town Hall.

It’s a unique insight into the events of fifty years ago.

Enjoy!
