Maresca started his reign as City boss in emphatic fashion – becoming the first manager ever to win their first seven Premier League games in charge of a club, surpassing Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who won their first six with City, Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.
But the Blues have slipped to back-to-back top-flight defeats away at Villa and at home to Brighton.
Despite a second half onslaught from Maresca’s men, the Seagulls went home with all three points in this latest contest thanks to Yasin Ayari’s 11-minute goal.
Maresca admitted frustration with the loss but stressed the importance of bouncing back quickly.
“For sure we are not happy - players, me, coaching staff, the club,” he told media at his post-match media briefing.
“No one is happy when we lose but we were aware that we were not going to win all the games.
“We need to improve things, move on and try to win games as soon as possible.”
