For our latest classic highlights instalment, we go back to a chilly evening at the Britannia Stadium on this day nine year ago.

With City looking to retain the Premier League title but in need of chasing down league leaders Chelsea, Manuel Pellegrini’s squad faced the tall task of defeating hosts Stoke.

City had not beat the Potters at their own home since 1999 and went into the clash without a win in five.

City took time to adjust to the cold night in Stoke as early pressure from the hosts paid off as Peter Crouch gave the hosts the lead before he was denied by the offside flag.

Of course it had to be Sergio Aguero who finally fired City ahead in the first half. But the hosts retaliated as Crouch finally found a goal of his own with a headed effort moments later.

Unlikely hero James Milner regained City’s lead 10 minutes into the second half to boost our confidence before City’s third was converted by Aguero from the penalty spot after David Silva was fouled inside the box and put City firmly in the driving seat.

The night was topped off with a beautiful Samir Nasri strike to break a long standing record of defeats and draws at the Britannia Stadium.
