Emilio Lawrence celebrated the prospect of turning 18 in memorable fashion as his brace of goals helped City's Under-19s to a decisive 5-2 UEFA Youth League win over Red Star Belgrade.

The City winger, who celebrates his 18th birthday on Wednesday, struck either side of half-time to get Brian Barry-Murphy‘s youngsters up and running against the Serbians in our opening Group G fixture.

And Lawrence then followed that brace up by providing the assist for Jaden Heskey‘s late strike with Will Dickson and Kane Taylor also on target.

Reflecting on what was a hugely impressive overall display, Lawrence said it was the perfect way to both launch our Youth League campaign and celebrate his landmark birthday!

“I was looking for the hat-trick but maybe next time for that!” Lawrence reflected.

“It’s my 18th birthday tomorrow so that was a nice way to celebrate.

“They were tough to play against but I thought we played well as a team and came out in the second half much better so I was proud of the boys.”
