In his first game in charge, Lauris Coggin and his young blues began the game with a good intensity which was matched by Liverpool.
And after chances for both sides, it was hard to predict who would take the lead.
But it was our young boys in blue who managed to break the deadlock on 18 minutes and it was none other than the 2025/26 Under-18 Premier League North top goalscorer.
Teddie Lamb tapped home from Olly Houlihan’s initial corner that the Reds failed to clear.
After the break, Archie Thornton, on his debut, doubled our lead from another corner. This time he rose highest to head home Dexter Oliver’s set piece to the back post.
City had a handful of chances to extend our lead with Lamb, Oliver, Caelan Cadamarteri and Marlow Barrett going closest and unfortunate not to find more moments to celebrate.
As we entered the final minutes of the match, Liverpool continued to push for at least a point.
Liverpool skipper Finn Inglethorpe converted from the penalty spot on 87 minutes and the visitors tried to find one more goal to snatch a draw, but City held firm to earn our first win of the new season.
