Brian Barry-Murphy says he was ‘hugely satisfied’ with our Under-19s’ performance in the 3-0 UEFA Youth League success over Young Boys.

In a superb first-half showing at the Joie Stadium, a competition debut penalty from 15-year-old Reigan Heskey opened the scoring, before Mahamadou Susoho’s free-kick and Matthew Henderson-Hall’s cool volley deservedly extended our lead.

The fine victory represented our third in the competition so far and extended our unbeaten run to four matches as we strengthened our hopes of reaching the knockout phase.

As a result, we sit at Group F’s summit and Barry-Murphy was delighted with City’s young charges’ overall performance in the victory over the Swiss side.

“I enjoyed the game immensely,” he declared.

“It was obviously different in the second half once we got in front, but I thought the performance was equally pleasing in different ways.

“Overall, a hugely satisfying day for us all and leads us very nicely into the next game.

“Reigan and Matthew for such young players had a really big impact in scoring in the first half which was hugely satisfying for them.

“I think at the Club we’re synonymous with producing wide players who can beat people one v one and it’s probably one of the most exciting things to see.

“Reigan has shown that in his Academy journey at how good he is at that aspect of the game and we definitely saw signs against much older opponents and his ability to do that.

“Essentially the way we play takes us to that point, then we’re hopeful at that point we can produce players who can create one v one situations and produce in the last action.

“His impact on the game was pretty significant in terms of the score.”
